The AeroSpoiler is a lift reduction device used for storm protection on aircraft parked outside during bad weather conditions. All internal components
of the cup/receiver internal assembly components are stainless steel. The rest of the component is made of high-impact ABS polymer, injection-molded into
a solid block of material. All Aerospoiler material has been treated to absorb sunlight without degrading over time.
Installation is fast and easy. Each cup/receiver assembly attaches to the wing surface
with an industrial
suction cup that is operated by a lever on the assembly housing. The first blade is then inserted into the end of any receiver assembly. The receiver
is canted at a 12% angle- to destroy most of the possible lifting of an ambient wind. It is very
straightforward: Your tie downs. No Velcro or straps to be concerned with; just secure the cup/receiver and insert the first blade, then continue with
the other receivers and blades the length of the wing.
NOTE: The AeroSpoiler CANNOT be used with cloth wings!
The blades are constructed of ABS industrial polymer material, consisting of 8 30"by 3" inch 5/16inch rectangles. The tensile strength has been measured at
1000-1500psi. ABS is more tensile than normal polymers, such that high pressure will bend vs. breaking it. These blades pretty much spoil
wind flow over the wing. In this respect, up to 96% of lift at 200mph is reduced. This is fundamentally the way AeroSpoiler works. Photo #3
above shows the starboard (right) wing of a C-401, with the AeroSpoiler mounted at 25% of the wing curve chord near the leading edge (near the front
edge). Please pay attention to the "Remove Before Flight" signs on the AeroSpoiler! Even commercial pilots in jetliners make mistakes with their
variable spoiler control surfaces. Simply search for "airline accidents"...
The kit contains 8 blades, and 10 pass-through receivers, also of injection-molded ABS polymer. Each receiver has internal tabs to act as a stop in the center of the 5.25in blade-holder.
This means each blade-end is inserted 2.5in into the receiver. This is 7.5 square inches of almost unbreakable ABS polymer is within the receiver, so the
breaking force would need to be over 10,000lbs of force. The walls of the receiver are .25in thick. Plus, a most excellent custom designed plastic case is included to stow the ensemble safely in cargo.
The entire kit weighs about 28 pounds. This should be negligible in your weight/balances. Your other tie down equipment probably weighs almost as much.
Extension kits are available for more than 20ft of wing coverage.
